phew
it's been taking me a while to get back to here.
not awfully busy, but having this and that to do and so on. :)
it's a quiet day and it's SO lovely outside, summer, pure summer.
and so it has been during the weekend. HEAVEN!!!
and we've had such a great time!
i baked that absolutely delicious banana bread on friday evening and took it to Bern for the Beltaine celebration Daniela and i were attending.
actually i packed my little suitcase - it's just easier to travel with that one than with a bag - after all i also had the medieval dress along with belt, bag, drink-horn, and a couple of other things.
travel by train was ok, Daniela picked me up at the train station in Bern and we went to her home where we made yummy huge salads - one mixed salad and one pasta salad with lots of yummy vegetables. she also had bought 8 litres of ice tea which she later dragged to the *elven meadow* (Elfenau). ugh!
we had some yummy mini-scones she had made herself (aw!!!) and then started getting dressed and decorated ourselves a bit. :) i had some nice little stick-on tattoos as well as she had some and we had tiny little bindi-moons that you can stick onto your forehead so we used those, too.
packed everything and went by bus to the forest - there followed little red bands that had been bound onto branches to mark the way - later there were candles leading down to the big central place - which mainly were also there to mark the way to the toilet. ;)
we met up with Astarta / Esther and 4 other people who were already there, talked a bit and then went investigating the area - it's a lovely forest quite close to the Aare river. very quiet and peaceful and beautiful. there's lots of natural seating area as well as enough space to make fires, have a barbeque, etc.
plus there ware longish tables put up, covered with lovely celtic design clothes - that was the *buffet*. :) during the time until it was getting dark lots of more people came. i think about 50 people had announced they'd come. i can't remember how many there were in the end. only remember 2 dogs that joined us, too. :)
Astarta had also put up a lovely little altar that everyone who wanted to could use - so we both did as well as a couple of others.
we met a beautiful very big (not big as overweight, just really really big) ginger cat three times that evening - such a lovely creature - first we saw him (i think it was a male cause of the size) climbing on tree trunks in the celebration area, then he sat by the way, basically waiting for us to approach and then asking to be cuddled and all *awwwww* and in the end we were actually watching a mouse being noise near some tree trunk when he suddenly dashed out of the bushes and tried to catch her - then made sure he got cuddled again and then went on hunting. :)))
ah yeah, and loads of squirrels there. i'm being haunted by squirrels these days. i've never seen as many of them EVER as this year. rarely see them although they *do* live in the forests of course. hmh... *i'm being stalked by squirrels*??? ;)
well, we had some of the yummy food - there were so many delicious salads and bread (most of it self-made... mmmmmmmmh) and loads of cakes. AW! been SO spoiled!
chatted and so on... later when it was dark a group of about 5 people made a fire-show which was absolutely amazing - so very well done and so beautiful. all you could hear were the swishes when the fire moved and the quiet lovely music in the background. it was very atmospheric and beautiful.
some noisy idiot who'd just come to get drunk (so it seemed) was kinda annoying as he was talking all the time so loudly, knowing all better and basically talking permanently - gah, we should have kicked him out of the circle. ;p
well, in the end we caught a last buy back to Daniela's home, there chatted and watched a dvd (*Practical Magic* ;)) and then went to sleep quite exhausted. :)
woke up *sometime* on Sunday, at about 11am i think and had some yummy breakfast, then decided to have a look around Bern. i hadn't been there for years and years and it was such a lovely day - 27°C if i remember right.
we had a look at the *Bärengraben* (= the bears of Bern), walked along the old houses of the city which are lovely... Daniela told me about some ghost stories she knows about some certain houses of Bern. :) then we went near the cathedral where you can overlook the Aare river below as well as the whole lovely landscape - Bern is really, really nice!
the cathedral's very nice, too - quite some funny gargoyles on the outside and a beautiful alabaster statue indoors - absolutely fascinating and SO amazingly detailed. it's unbelievable!
Daniela told me they once had *The Hunchback Of Notre Dame* showed outdoors including this cathedral in the show. imagine! it must have been spectacular!
we did some *window-shopping* as we call it in german - lots of special shops there, maybe i should return sometime when they're all open...
then had some yummy dinner at Daniela's - Focaccia with veggies and dips... and in then we went to the train station to get me on a train back.
it was a really lovely weekend - i feel as if i'd been on a holiday really. so relaxed and happy. maybe that's also cause of the weather. it was absolutely amazing!
as for today:
not too busy at work and will later meet up with mum at IKEA. we need to get some balcony furniture - nothing too big, just two chairs and a small table. we kicked out the old set which my aunt had given us - it took up too much space and was rather uncomfortable anyway. and would probably have started falling apart at some point. ahem.
so now we need something smaller and some stairway or whatever for the pots. fingers crossed. i LOVE strolling through IKEA. it's so inspiring. give me a house to design (furniture-wise) and i'd LOVE to do that there. :)
