Oh gosh, how am I supposed to answer this AT ALL?
It changes all the time thus I can say I like many, a lot. You know me after all... :) Mythology, Legends, and all that. :)
  • Dragons for fire, but basically all the elements (hence my Celtic dragon on my ankle :))...
  • Faeries because how can you NOT be intrigued (and if you aren't they'll knock you over the head or worse, so there you go)...
  • Vampires for the darker side (I doubt anyone's surprised by that)...
  • Unicorns because of "The Last Unicorn" really...
  • The whole world of Lord of the Rings!
  • Mermaids and Nymphs for the waters...
  • Nessie! Never seen her when I was on a Loch Ness cruise, but...
  • Selkies... ever looked into the large soulful eyes of a seal?
  • Werewolves are pretty interesting, too (as long as none bites me. I love wolves, but I spend some amount of time actually epilating my legs. Imagine the frustration of growing it all back within a second - all and MORE. :p)
  • Griffins - they're amazingly beautiful
  • Phoenix... because... there's my element again, Fire
  • Leprechauns... because I've once seen one

And the list goes on...

Where did you see the Leprechaun and what was that experience like?

It was a really weird experience... I guess to most it just sounds like seeing someone weird, but it was kind of different. Right, here goes:
We were in Ireland and visited a Forest Park in the evening. Those are huge there, and usually if you're there off season or on a weekday, evening, there's hardly anyone there.
We were there all alone, really beautiful place... Mum and me had been there before so we knew it a TINY bit... we just walked on a path towards the huge forest, knowing there's a faerie bridge (an old stone bridge) somewhere... and suddenly this man came out of the forest, walking towards us. I SWEAR he just looked like a Leprechaun. You know, small (smaller than me), cheerful, and he was wearing very *chic* yet old-ish clothes... kind of... tweed and the sort, but very carefully dressed, many detailed bits and pieces (and he came right out of the forest where there's nothing but the forest. No center, no house, no nothing else). It was the kind you wouldn't expect to meet *anywhere* really. He walked past us and while doing so cheerfully said *if you get lost, just call me*... and away he was.
We didn't get lost, so... and we never saw him again. But it was one of the oddest things ever. Not just a weird meeting with a weird person... :D

I totally believe this. You believe in magic, so you are able to see this. If more people would believe, more people would have these experiences. See if you don't open yourself to these things they do not come on your path. What a special meeting.

That's true - why should whatever *unusual* happen to you if you wouldn't believe in it anyway?
Or maybe it would happen but you wouldn't truly see it...
It was very special. Mum and me looked at each other in a *you saw him, too, right?* way... :D

The Universe does fun things like that to us.

I love how we can talk about these things. We have a certain understanding. :)

It absolutely does. Such as synchronicities or just what I call *fun stuff* out of the blue. Heeheeh. :D

Yes! I love that. :) It's kind of very nice not to have explain myself over and over again and reassure that I'm not nuts, etc. ;)

I like your list. Mine is similar except for the addition of elves.

I kind of summed them up in Lord of the Rings I guess and then forgot to mention them separately. Of course elves, too!!!

Well it looks very much like my list) Unicorns, dragonss, vampires, werewolves, fairies and mermaids...Thought I didn't understand who are griffins and selkies.

From: [identity profile] naurwen.livejournal.com
If you google them you'll see some pictures :)
a griffin is something like a mix of an eagle or so (head and wings) and a lion (paws, etc.).
a selkie is from Irish mysthology: they're like seals when they're in the sea / water, but they can take off their seal-skins and come on land and then look like humans. in the myths it's said that if you find a selkie skin lying around and take it, then the selkie can't go back to living in the water. he/she will stay with you then, but you have to hide the skin very well as they'll be desperate to go back. There's a legend of a man who stole a female selkie's skin because he fell in love with her. they lived together and also had a child, but once she found the selkie skin she couldn't help herself but had to return to the waters (although she loved him and the child, I believe).

I was too stupid not to recognize griffins) of course I know what they are)we call them similar to this too.

But selkies are new to me! I haven't heard about them! And the legend is so lovely and romantic)

I guess it is right, becouse I don't think I've heard about them before, thought I should read my numerous books about mythology more attentively and maybe there is something about them. Also after reading this meme I realized I do not remember much russian native creatures or just those who are popular.

The most well known creatures in our mythology are Firebird, mermaids (we call them rusalka) and three birds called Syrin, Alkanost, gamayun, (they are like syrens I guess), also we have such creatures like Zmey, and also creatures that live in a special places - like вщьщмщо for homes, vodyanoj for water, leshij for forests . That is such an interesting theme, I should write more in my LJ.

From: [identity profile] naurwen.livejournal.com
oh please write more about it in your LJ! I'd love to read more. :D
Mermaids are rusalka in Czech, too. :D
And for water there's the vodnyk - he sits by the water and plays the fiddle, I think. I'm sure there are more, but I don't know them all, either.
